Nature is a major source of inspiration for me. Whether I am cultivating my garden or simply basking in the beauty of the outdoors, I am reminded of the vastness of the universe and my place within it. I strive to bring this sense of expansiveness into my yoga, using the power of the breath to calm the mind and free the body.

My time spent working as an environmental organizer was a masterclass on politics and power and I began to sense and feel just how many of my issues were trapped in my tissues. Dejected consciousness returned me to my mat with a greater presence of breath. I discovered an electrifying practice that fortified how I showed up in the world. I believe in the power of somatics to decolonize the body, to create more space, and to source internal power, healing abundance, and more aliveness.

My approach emphasizes slow conscious movements to allow space for a witnessing of sensations and movement of the body. This body presence invites in more space, allows energy to flow freely throughout the body, enlivens exploration of postures more deeply, and grows an intimate understanding of breathing patterns. My favorite shape to feel into is Supta Baddha Konasana, Supine Bound Angle Pose, soles together knees surrendered down to the earth with the universe at my back. My favorite pose to teach is Tadasana, Mountain pose, because there's so much presence and sensation in the climb of bone belly and breath from the soles of the feet to the crown of the head. For me, yoga is an embodied transformative practice offering an opportunity to carry unearthed benevolence from within with you everywhere you go.
